Client Brief
The client wanted to transform the heart of their home into a bright, modern space that better suited family life. Their key objectives were:
- Create one large open-plan kitchen, dining and living area.
- Improve the flow between the existing lounge and kitchen.
- Maximise natural light throughout the space.
- Install large bifold doors to better connect the home with the garden.
- Introduce a roof lantern to flood the new living area with daylight.
- Create a practical, family-focused space for everyday living and entertaining.
Description of Works
The project began with the complete strip-out of the existing kitchen and preparation for the structural alterations. We installed structural steelwork to safely remove the separating walls, creating a spacious open-plan layout.
To maximise natural light, we formed a new opening for aluminium bifold doors, installed a roof lantern within the existing flat roof, converted an existing window into a full-height feature window, and blocked up a redundant high-level window to improve the functionality of the new kitchen layout.
With the structural works complete, the space was fully rewired with a new lighting scheme, the heating system was adapted to suit the revised layout, and the entire area was replastered to provide a high-quality finish ready for decoration.
The final phase included the installation of new flooring throughout, replacement skirting boards, and complete redecoration, bringing the transformation together. To complete the project, our sister company, Barleywood Kitchens, designed and installed a stunning bespoke kitchen, creating a bright, contemporary family space that perfectly met the client’s brief.
